Darren McFadden News
Booty, McFadden head list of Heisman hopefuls
Players from losing teams don't win the Heisman Trophy. It only happened once and that was in 1956, when Paul Hornung did it for Notre Dame. So if you're looking for Heisman Trophy contenders, start with the best teams in the country and work down
Five players most likely to be in New York the second weekend in December for the presentation of the big bronze statue:
John David Booty, QB, USC: John David Booty was good last season, 3,347 yards and 29 TD passes, and should be even better in his second season as a starter. And if the Trojans are as good as advertised, that boosts John David Booty's stock, too.
Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas: You'd be hard-pressed to find a more talented player, but the Razorbacks probably won't be as good as they were last year when they played in the Southeastern Conference title game and that could hurt Darren McFadden's campaign.
Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville: Could have been a first-round NFL draft pick. Instead came back to try to win a national title. Should put up big numbers, and Cardinals are a national championship contender.
Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii: He'll have the numbers. Last season he completed 73 percent of his passes for 5,549 yards and a record 58 TD passes. He needs to lead the Warriors to an unbeaten season to win a Heisman Trophy.
Colt McCoy, QB, Texas: Threw 29 TDs and only seven INTs in his first season as a starter. Even more is expected this season and the Longhorns have a great group of receivers to help him along.
Honorable mention
Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers; Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia; Pat White, QB, West Virginia; DeSean Jackson, WR, California; Tim Tebow, QB, Florida.
