Darren McFadden News
Arkansas at Alabama - A Quick Preview
Tomorrow's SEC showdown in Tuscaloosa has a lot more ramifications than some would think. With Alabama at 2-0 and coming off a "vanilla" win against Vanderbilt, they have a few things to prove. Arkansas is coming in at 1-0 and fresh off of a BYE week. Both teams will be looking to get that first "big win" under their belt. Now, let's take a quick look at the key points.
Alabama's Keys To Victory
1) Establish a passing game. John Parker Wilson could not get into a solid rythym against a lackluster Vanderbilt team. Look for Major Applewhite to attempt to get Wilson and Hall connected early.
2) Contain the tandem of running backs. Heismen Favorite Darren McFadden will be the focal point of Alabama's defensive strategy. Containing him is key. With Felix Jones as his counterpart, that assignment is going to be tough to handle.
3) Kicking game is a must have. Leigh Tiffin didn't hit the broadside of the barn last year in this match-up. Alabama must cash in on their Extra Point attempts as well as their Field Goal attempts.
Arkansas' Keys To Victory
1) Contain Terry Grant. With Grant on the field, the unproven Arkansas defense must be aware of their surroundings at all times. If they continually allow Grant to get into the secondary, he will make people miss. Containing him is crucial for an Arkansas win.
2) Darren McFadden must run free. Heismen hopefull Darren McFadden is up against a tough Alabama defense who has been known for their stubborness against the run. Alabama held Vanderbilt and Western Carolina to minimal yards on the ground, so a successful running game is vital.
3) Kicking game is a must have. Arkansas has had troubles with their kicking game as well. Houston Nutt has got to find a way to ensure a good kicking game against 'Bama. Without it, a loss could be at hand for the Hogs.
As 3 of the nation's top 15 Running Backs take the field on Saturday night, all eyes will be inevitably on Nick Saban. Last week's win over Vandy was not convincing enough for some Alabama fans, and the pressure is on this week. A win, and Alabama plays Georgia with heads held high. A loss, and Arkansas could regain the reputation the gained last year.
Prediction :
Arkansas- 24
Alabama-16
