After the 2011 NFL Draft Hue Jackson came out made sure the world new that even though the Oakland Raiders did not call a name in the first-round that they loved their first-round selection. That selection was Richard Seymour. I posted an article that revolved around his comments, and then polled the Nation. We responded with an overwhelming 85 percent approval rating for this trade.
I also talked about the trade from the Patriots end. I came to the conclusion that the trade has to also be considered a success for the Patriots because they had no intention of re-signing Richard Seymour after the 2009 season. But that is where I pinpointed the Patriots failure: their strategy no to commit to Richard Seymour. Who knows what the Patriots would have been able to accomplish had they made a long-term commitment to Seymour?
It appears Tom Curran on CSNNE.com agrees with that sentiment. Check out the article. While most of it focuses on the Patriots it is a fun read for Raider fans. Here are two of my favorite quotes:
And for two years, the Patriots have missed the hell out of him. ...But the football thing? Simply put, the Patriots have been missing what the Raiders have been enjoying.
