Headed to Arizona missing one thing: Super Bowl tickets
Facts and figures for the Super Bowl on Sunday:
Barry Bernstein started going with his father to New York Giants games at the old Polo Grounds in Upper Manhattan in the mid-1950s. His wife, Barbara, started going with him in the early 1960s to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx to watch Big Blue before they were even married.
The Manhattan couple watched the
Giants win Super Bowls XXI and XXV against the
Denver Broncos and
Bills in person, and they were there too when their team lost Super Bowl XXXV to the Ravens.
This afternoon, the Bernsteins were at
Newark Liberty International Airport with tickets for Continental Flight 535 to Phoenix, but something was missing: Two tickets to Super Bowl XLII, pitting their beloved Giants against the undefeated Patriots.
Having lost out on the Giants
Super Bowl ticket lottery, the Bernsteins, each wearing different Giants sweatshirts, are on a mission: Scoring a pair of tickets by Sunday's 6:18 p.m. kickoff time.
Barbara Bernstein allowed that the couple is not unique.
"There are many people just as crazy as we are,'' she said.
